Take Me To The Pilot - Elton John - Song of the Week #19

Take Me To The Pilot

I love this hard, upbeat, driven piano groove. Always have! This is one of those tunes that has you stomping out the beat and singing with the chorus.

It was released as a single on the A side in 1970 with "Your Song" on the B side. Disc jockey's ended up favoring "Your Song" which led this fabulous tune to be pushed to the B side of the record. Although it may not have been as popular, it is clearly the more inventive cut. The nonsensical  lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin who readily admits he has no idea what the lyrics mean. He just put words together and liked how they sounded. Elton seems to think that the lyrics were inspired by Science Fiction books Bernie was reading at the time.

Whether it makes logical sense or not, this is a great listen.
Na na na...Enjoy!

Here's the original.

Here's a 2002 live version with a FABULOUS Intro!

Happy Listening!
