Grey Seal - Elton John - Song of the Week #20

Grey Seal

This song is another mystery in terms of lyrical meaning, however, the driving, syncopated rhythms create an amusement park for your ears. An effected electric guitar, ridiculous piano groove, supersonic congas, and pounding drums make this truly a fabulous listen. While the song structure(Intro/V/CH/V/CH/V/CH/Outro) isn't elaborate, it surprisingly does an impeccable job of leaving the listener satisfied. I suppose great lead ins, perfectly placed stop time, and added harmonies generate the desired entertainment value.

A slower, simpler version of the well known cut found on the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album was originally release on the B Side of "Rock n Roll Madonna" in 1970. The rereleased version is a vast improvement from the original.
Hey, you gotta start somewhere, Right?

Here's the rereleased version.

And the original...

A live version - 1974 (ignore the flippin' timecode)

Happy Listening
