Happiness, understanding, and enlightenment can all be found weaved throughout the music of the Dave Matthews Band. The complex mixture of sounds, instruments, and musical genre's present is astounding, and hard not to become inthralled in. Most people that I've encountered have delighted in listening to the sweet sounds. It's hard not to love a band made up of five hugely talented musicians that revel in layering intense drum grooves, pulsing bass lines, with inventive riffs and melodies. Sent from up above, the elements combine naturally to create a sound unlike any other.

At the beginning stages, the DMB would be described by most as a "jam band", but their evolution has proved that they offer so much more. Dave Matthews, being a natural guitar wiz and songwriter, wanted some of his originals recorded, and set out to form a band. Both drummer, Carter Beauford, and the late saxophonist, LeRoi Moore were accomplished jazz musicians before joining the band. That's where we get the wonderful jazz flavor pulsing through almost all of their tunes. Jazz music is one of the most complex musical genre's, so adding this underlying element massively elevates the sound being produced. A 16 year old bass playing prodigy, Stefan Lessard, came recommended by a local jazz guru. This would be the learning experience of a lifetime for him, I'm sure! Boyd Tinsley, a classically trained violinist, was the finishing touch. His unconventional use of his instrument added yet another layer of musical goodness, completing the quintet's unique sound.

It's hard to fully describe the complexities and skill of the DMB. They are able to produce a sound all their own, and inspire a wide range of listeners. Young and old alike have been, and will continue to be elevated to a higher level by simply absorbing their music.

  1. I used to hate them in highschool, I think I was upset because the girls all talked about how hot Dave was. He is not good looking, just amazingly talented. Either way I realized I was just jealous ant therefore missing out. Great band!
