Bob Marley - Legend of the Month - July 2011

One World ~ One Love

There are few people in this world that will have the lasting impact and resounding presence that Bob Marley possessed. He was a common man with an extraordinary soul, and the ability to create music infused with life, purpose, and love. His belief in Rastafari encouraged his listeners to accept the idea that we are all part of a whole. We are ONE. Rasta is not best described as a religion, rather a movement of faith, or an ideology. The understanding that God/Jah exists within all of us sets the basic foundation, and individuals are encouraged to find inspiration within themselves.

"Rastas say that Jah, in the form of the Holy Spirit (incarnate), lives within the human, and for this reason they often refer to themselves as "I and I." Furthermore, "I and I" is used instead of "We," and is used in this way to emphasize the equality between all people, in the recognition that the Holy Spirit within us all makes us essentially one and the same."

A solider in every sense of the word, his music and vision will continue to effect the masses for many years to come. Motivating people of all religions, creeds, and colors, Bob Marley spread the overwhelming spirit that lived within him through his exceptionally written music and wholehearted words. Passing away in 1981 at the young age of 36, he and his band, The Wailers, had already set in motion the movement and message of One World, One Love. It's truly amazing what a person can produce in such a short period of time, and certainly makes it quite obvious that he was brought into this world for a purpose. Comprehending the reality of his iconic conviction and determination is truly astounding! His final words to his son Ziggy incorporate one of the most important messages we should all hope to learn.

"Money can't buy life."

How you live, and what you chose to accept is what makes your life. Someday, one day, you will be gone, and no material thing will bring you back here. Until then, accept, rejoice, and never stop believing in yourself and the common spirit that exists
within all of us.

Here are some of the songs you may know.
