The success and larger than life influence of the rock band Queen is impossible to ignore. Many know them through their hit music, but at the heart of the Queen experience lies an exceptional display of musical drama and soul. Front and center, the spotlight shines endlessly on Freddie Mercury, a man who needs no introduction. Freddie effortlessly maintained a simple truth that still shines today. An emotional connection to the music is evident in his vocals and movement, both on stage and in video productions. Many would see him as overly flamboyant, but if you ask me, there is something to be said for delivering yourself to the masses with no pretense. He gave us who he was, and we should be grateful to be able to experience such genius. It proves not only that you can be who you are, and be accepted, but that above all, music speaks to a person's soul, allowing them to set their prejudice and judgement aside for the sake of vibrational enlightenment. Even the most homophobic, uptight person can't deny the power of this man, his band, their vision, and most importantly, the remarkable music that accompanies it all. His death set a new standard for understanding and accepting a community riddled with cliches and stereotypes, but the way in which he lived should serve as a lesson to us all. The world would be a much better place if each of us could find the Freddie within, and apply him/her to our own life.
